Summer's Farewell and Fall's Arrival: The August/September Barnyard Bulletin

Hello faithful followers! Can you believe it's already August? Time flies when you're having fun, and what an eventful summer it has been! We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all those who took part in our incredible Taking Steps for Homeless Pets in June and supported us at our July Car Show. These events were huge successes, thanks to our amazing participants, generous donors, enthusiastic attendees, dedicated sponsors, and of course, our faithful volunteers.

But the fun doesn't stop there! We have a lineup of exciting events coming up, so be sure to check out our website for all the details. Events are essential for us to fundraise, as we rely on your support to continue our mission. However, we're facing some tough times, as donations are down by over 40% and animal intakes are up. We humbly request your help. If you're able to contribute by donating a raffle prize or becoming a corporate sponsor, please contact Kim Miller at or call 847-767-1994. Together, we can overcome these challenges and continue making a difference in the lives of the animals we love and care for. Thank you for being a part of our incredible community!

Update on Vincent's Journey

Vincent's intake day in Memphis

May 30, 2023

Vincent's journey has been nothing short of remarkable since his rescue in Memphis. With the love and care of a dedicated foster in TN, he is healing and getting stronger, preparing to travel to Glory Bound Rescue Ranch. While he still faces a long road ahead, including an assessment for leg amputation, his resilient spirit shines through. Despite the pain and suffering he endured, Vincent is described as a very sweet boy. We'll soon be on the lookout for a foster home for Vincent upon his arrival at Glory Bound. If you're interested in providing him with a loving temporary home, please fill out our foster form. Together, we can give Vincent the future he deserves!

Change for Good: A Tale of Two Seniors Finding Love, Hope, and a Home of Their Own

Once upon a time, in the heart of a small town in Illinois, two gentle souls found themselves in a world of uncertainty. Riley, a wise 9-year-old Collie mix, and Sheila, a dignified 14-year-old Irish Wolfhound mix, were inseparable companions with a bond that defied time. Their journey began on a fateful day when they were seized during a hoarding case, surrounded by 17 deceased animals hidden away in freezers. Placed in a shelter, they waited and waited, hoping for a chance at a better life.

Featured Adoptable Dog

Meet Gertrude, or Gerty for short, a delightful 6-month-old German Shepherd mix who was found wandering the streets of Memphis when she was just 8 weeks old. Despite her challenging past, Gerty is a beautiful copper-colored bundle of joy, full of puppy energy and curiosity.

Unlikely Friends: Ranger the Mustang and Grace the Senior Pony

In December of 2021, a unique and unlikely friendship blossomed in the face of adversity. Ranger, a 9-year-old wild Mustang born on the open range in Fish Creek, NV, rounded up for herd control by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) found himself in a kill pen, separated from his herd and facing an uncertain fate. Mustangs share an extraordinary bond with their family, so the separation was particularly devastating. Purchased by an unknown individual from the BLM, he was headed towards a grim end at the hands of irresponsible people. Glory Bound had never saved a wild Mustang before, but we couldn't bear to let this iconic symbol of America perish. One generous donor paid his kill pen fee, and our rescue team sprang into action. Mustangs require special handling due to their wild nature, and we needed help. That's when Grace, a tiny and weak senior pony, came into the picture. Her owner no longer wanted her and sent her to the same kill pen. Continue reading about this special friendship...
